Privacy Policy
What we record about you, why, for how long, and what you can change.
We record what we need to deliver your order, to email you if something goes wrong, and to check if our site is working. We do not sell your data. You can request what data we have about you, have it corrected, or have it deleted at any time — one email is enough.
Who writes this policy
Rince is a Dutch webshop that sells filtered shower heads and filters. If you order from us, receive our newsletter, or use the water hardness checker, we are the data controller for your data. This means that we determine what it is used for, and you can contact us with any questions about it.
What we record about you
Not everything below applies to everyone. What we have from you depends on what you do with us.
What we use them for, and on what grounds
The law requires us to have a legal basis for each purpose. Here they are, with how long we retain the data for that purpose.
The water hardness checker
If you enter your postcode, we will look up the water hardness in your region. This data comes from public sources of the water companies; we do not request it from your water supplier and we do not link it to your address.
Your email address is optional. If you enter it and check the box, we will send you the results and then our tips. If you don't check anything, you will only see the results on your screen and we will not add you to a list. You can unsubscribe at the bottom of every email.
Cookies and measurement
Cookies are small files that a site places on your device. We use three types.
- Necessary — your shopping cart, checkout, language selection, and security. Without these, the store will not function, so we do not ask for consent for these.
- Analytical — via Google Analytics 4, we see how many people view which page and where they drop off. We use this to improve the site, not to track you personally.
- Advertising — via the Meta pixel, we measure whether a click on our ad leads to an order, and we can show ads to people who are similar to you.
For everything that is not strictly necessary, we ask for your prior consent in the cookie notification. If you refuse, the store will still work; we will simply measure less. You can always change your choice later, and you can also block or delete cookies in your browser.
Who we share them with
We do not sell or trade your data. However, we do engage parties who perform part of the work. With each of them, we have agreed that they may only use your data for us, and not for themselves.
In addition, we may share data if required by law, for example, in the event of a claim from an investigative authority or the Tax Authorities. And if Rince is ever acquired or merges with another company, your data will be transferred – we will inform you of this.
Outside Europe
Some of the parties listed above are located outside the European Economic Area. This is permitted, but only with a legally recognized safeguard. We rely on the following:
- Canada — the European Commission has determined that the protection there is equivalent (adequacy decision).
- United States — the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, supplemented by the European Commission's standard contractual clauses.
- Other countries — the European Commission's standard contractual clauses, with a case-by-case assessment of whether they are sufficient in that country.
Would you like a copy of the safeguard that applies to a specific party? Email support@rince.nl and we will send it to you.
How we secure them
Our site runs entirely over an encrypted connection, payments go through the secure environment of the payment service provider, and only the people who need your data to do their work have access to it.
No security is watertight, and we will not sugarcoat it. If you notice anything that seems amiss, please email support@rince.nl – we will respond seriously. If, against all odds, something goes wrong with a risk to you, we will report it to the Dutch Data Protection Authority and inform you.
Your rights
You don't need to provide a reason to use them.
- Access — request what data we hold about you.
- Rectification — have incorrect data corrected.
- Erasure — have data we no longer need deleted. We are legally required to retain invoice data for 7 years; we cannot delete it earlier.
- Restriction of processing — temporarily suspend data use, for example, while you dispute a correction.
- Objection — object to data use based on our legitimate interest. You can always object to direct marketing, and we will stop.
- Data portability — receive a copy in a common file format, or have it sent directly to another party.
- Withdraw consent — where we rely on consent, you may withdraw it. What we did before that remains lawful.
Email support@rince.nl and you will hear from us within one month. If your request is complex, we may extend this period by two months – we will inform you of this within the first month. We may ask you to identify yourself to ensure we do not provide someone else's data to the wrong person. There are no costs associated with a request, and we will not treat you any differently afterwards.
Submitting a complaint
If you believe we are not handling your data properly, please first let us know via support@rince.nl. If you cannot resolve it with us, you can submit a complaint to the Dutch supervisory authority: the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens. If you live in Belgium, you can contact the Data Protection Authority. You can also always go to court.
Children
Our store is not aimed at children and we do not knowingly collect data from people under 16. If you think your child has given us data, please email us – we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
If anything changes in how we work, we will adjust this policy and set a new date at the top. In the event of a significant change, we will actively inform you if we have your email address. It pays to check what's stated occasionally.
Questions or want something deleted?
Email support@rince.nl. We respond within 24 hours on weekdays, and you'll receive a response to a formal request about your data within one month.
